[Martenlist] Advice for traditional programmer

Hi All,

I have downloaded the demo version of Marten to try out visual
programming, having been aware of prograph. Coming from traditional
programming languages (Perl, Python, Smalltalk, assembler and a bit of
C) I found the experience both liberating and confusing.

Being a creative type of person, I find visual metaphors very
powerful. But I kept finding myself thinking that I could achieve the
same results with a few lines of Perl. At the same time it was fun to
draw my code!

Help! I am really trying hard to "get it" big time with Marten, not
least that I have RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) after years of mousing
and typing and potentially I could use a graphics tablet for my work
with Marten.

Marten seems to offer all I need - database, networking, Mac GUI and
external calls. I would be pleased to hear of anyone's experience of
"unthinking" the methods of programming in the text editor world and
applying those skills to visual programming.

I think I will still buy a copy of Marten some time soon anyway, just
to continue with my self education of this brilliant bit of kit. In the
meantime, I can work with the demo to get the Zen of Marten.

Kind Regards,
